Mythology

In Greek mythology, Halcyon was the daughter
of Aeolus and had married Ceyx.
When her husband drowned,
she threw herself into the waves,
to join him in that destiny.

However, the Gods were moved by
this tragedy and decided to save them both,
by transforming them into Halcyons,
or Kingfishers, as they are now called.

Jupiter also decreed that winds
should not disturb the seas seven days
before and after the winter solstice,
which is the period when these elegant birds hatch.

The expression “Halcyon days”
derives from this myth and it symbolizes
a period of calm and tranquility, with no storms.
